NOTICE: Beach Warning Flag Season Ends

As of Saturday, November 1, 2025, the National Weather Service has ENDED the daily Beach Warning Flag forecasts for the 2025 season. Forecasting for the Town of Oak Island and the rest of the Cape Fear region will resume on April 1, 2026.

Just as intermittent patrols may still be possible during says with large crowds or special events, similarly the warning flags may be occasionally flown is locally observed conditions call for extra warning.

The Warning Flag System, and the forecasts which drive them are a tremendous asset to ensuring public safety, and we are grateful to our partners at the NWS for the dedicated, and well informed forecasting services they provide.

Once again, the Town of Oak Island and the Oak Island Fire Department would like to extend sincere gratitude to all of our Beach Safety Unit and fellow first responders for their hard work throughout the 2025 Season!

The Oak Island Fire Department is a combination department that includes dedicated volunteers and career personnel.  Our responsibilities include fire suppression, technical rescue, hazardous materials response, response to medical emergencies at the advanced life support level and response to other public health, safety and welfare conditions that threaten the Oak Island community. We are also active in Fire Prevention and Public Education activities. Our ultimate goal is to protect life and property.
